Pay it forward
After our epic stay at Pine Tree on the Bayou, we were ready to switch gears: less adventure, more downtime. Enter Beyonder Cajun Moon RV Resort in Sulphur, Louisiana. This place promised relaxation, productivity, and just the right mix of “treat yourself” vibes.
First Impressions: Propane Dreams and Hot Tub Schemes
At check-in, the host greeted us with a Southern smile and a pitch-perfect rundown of the park’s amenities:
- Propane delivery straight to our RV (because who wants to deal with that?)
- Morning garbage pick-up (fancy, right?)
- A hot tub that sometimes worked (more on that later)
The brochure upped the ante with a stocked fishing pond, a gym, and all kinds of extras that made this place sound like the Ritz of RV parks. We were sold.
Lounging, Working, and the Case of the Glitchy Hot Tub
The next few days were blissful. We balanced walks around the beautifully maintained park with bursts of productivity and capped off our evenings with visits to the hot tub. Or at least we tried.
Night one? Perfect. The water was gloriously hot, cascading into an attached pool with a picturesque waterfall. Night two? Well… not so much.
The Pool Plunge That Went Sideways
On the second evening, as I popped into the bathroom, John decided to “test the waters.” Literally.
Feeling adventurous, he dipped a toe into the pool, found it pleasantly warm (thanks to the waterfall’s top layer), and decided to go all in. Big mistake. The pool, as it turned out, was about one degree shy of Arctic. Apparently, the top inch was warm, and the rest was straight-up glacier runoff.
John hit the water, then immediately hit the eject button, managing a record-breaking escape that I regret missing. Dripping and shivering, he made a beeline for the hot tub… only to discover it was out of order that night. The poor guy looked like a soggy chihuahua searching for a heat lamp.
Local Flavor and Boudin Banter
Despite the hot tub’s betrayal, our time at Cajun Moon wasn’t all misfires. On night one, we met Ashley—a local with a knack for tips and a deep love of Louisiana cuisine. She and John the Rockstar husband Laverty had an intense gumbo debate while I listened and nodded like I knew what roux was.
Ashley’s must-do list included:
- Hanging out on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain.
- Finally trying Boudin (spoiler: still not convinced).
She left us with her foodie wisdom and an early work wake-up call, leaving John hyped for more Cajun culinary adventures.
R&R Done Right (Mostly)
With a solid recharge under our belts, we packed up and set our sights on Lafayette. We may not have caught a fish, fixed the hot tub, or fully recovered from the pool incident, but hey—Beyonder Cajun Moon gave us a few laughs, a few tips, and at least one unforgettable splash.
