Casa Grande – Grande Sports World Facility – Great tournament. Well organized and great fields.
Dairy Queen – when you cant find shade, find Ice Cream
Eva’s – very good food and amazing service – dog friendly patio!
Ok, where were we….brakes ? Check! Rad hoses? Check! Chihuahua self defense training against javelinas? Check! So with everything in place it seemed like a good time for some (football) soccer. A tournament you say….well why not. We pulled in on Friday and games start in the morning. I made the decision to behave and stay in only to find out the team was enjoying Old Fashioned’s and pretending they were in Vegas. Thanks for the heads up gents. So anyway my friends from Colorado have entered two teams into the Casa Grande Tournament and invited me to join. Knowing Tracy’s delight in looking after the dogs and herself for three days, I had no choice but to accept the invitation.
A level playing field…I dint think so…
So Arizona they tell me is almost on the same plain in regards to sea level as Saskatchewan so Im thinking this will be amazing. And since we, in Saskatchewan are used to 41 degrees in the shade this should be a cake walk. So off we go day one, Tracy and the chi’s decide to come and watch. Luckily we found some shade just off the side of the pitch and all was well. Each minute the sun moved so moved the shade. When half time arrived Tracy and the Chi’s were at the other end of the parking lot squinting to make out the game. (dogs don’t squint, and are the only ones who care less about watching soccer in that temp than Tracy)
Anyway I could go on and on about each game and the outcomes, but let me just summarize: We didn’t win. We did play well and met a lot of new friends from all over. Even learned that South Detroit is technically Windsor, Ontario, but thats another story all together. Hint – Look at a map.
There’s always next year
The Colorado crew brought two teams and the younger team was great to watch as well. Their record was a little bit better than ours. Hey there’s always next year! I will say again the lads from Colorado are a great Bunch, was a pleasure to play with them and hang out before and after the games. Managed to have a great team meal where at times I wasn’t sure I was there, but Mr. Detroit kept checking for a Canadian and what do you know .. there I was. It seemed funny at the time – at least to Mr. Detroit.
Even the trees are giving up
So enough about soccer, our RV Resort was Rancho Del Sol. Well the hint is in the title. Not a tree to be found and if it was found it was bloody thirsty and not really up to providing shade. We think they should rename the resort, Del Sol 24/7. That said, it was a great location for us for everything and by everything I mean the soccer tournament. But seriously, we had a decent spot and they had a nice back field to let the dogs have an off leash run without to much fear of Javelina’s. So with the team gone, Tracy was forced to spend time with me again and we took full advantage and went for some Authentic Mexican food at a pet friendly restaurant close by. Followed by Dairy Queen for some authentic slush and ice cream floats and of course pup cups! Back to the Rv and get ready for the next Leg which we might have to call the No Foot-y Leg. That’s funny, I don’t care what anyone says. and it’s also not funny cause it means no more soccer for quite a while.
Dogs packed? check! Car on dolly? Check! RV Locked and Loaded <- thats funny cause we are headed to Texas (Spoiler alert!) Check!
– back home –
