Arizona – Last Stop

Before making our way to New Mexico, we squeezed in one last pit stop at Fort Wilcox RV Park in Arizona. Admittedly, I wasn’t at my best—still battling the flu—but we managed the short drive and got some much-needed rest. This park didn’t exactly stand out, nestled right off the interstate with little to distinguish it from the surrounding desert. But the quirky woman running the place gave it enough personality to earn an honourable mention. We only stayed one night before hitting the road again, this time heading for El Paso, and what a story that city turned out to be!

New Mexico – Only stop

Low-Hi RV Park in Deming, New Mexico, turned out to be a peaceful and restorative stop for us as we both continued recovering from the flu. This park is part of the Loners on Wheels (LoW) chain and is designed with full-time RVers in mind. We didn’t plan any excursions, focusing instead on work, rest, recovery, laundry, and, of course, walks with the chis.

The community vibe was strong, with friendly people and a packed calendar of daily events, though we skipped most of them this time around. The dogs enjoyed the dog park, but the ever-present “goat heads”—spiky burrs Phyllis at the dog park aptly named “fucking devil thorns”—were a constant annoyance, even finding their way into the RV and causing a few painful moments for all of us.

The highlight of our stay was the beautifully curated walking path. It had so much charm, including a miniature ghost town that someone clearly put a lot of effort into creating. While the park was lovely and the people sweet, the chilly nights were a signal to keep moving—our last evening dipped below zero (Celsius). After three relaxing days, we packed up and hit the road, ready for what’s next!
