- Finnegan learned that the presence of a squirrel requires no action on his part
- They at least got their fence for midnight bathroom breaks with no leashes

- Check and re-check sources, sometimes the thing that looks “too good to be true”, really is.
- I have come to learn that I enjoy parks where we are not the only campers – especially on the outskirts of a city
- could have used a little more info here, thought we were getting hook ups < for the RV
- the actual park was very well kept
Pay it forward
- John’s driving skills that let us avoid dropping the car unnecessarily
- Looking for a game of pickle ball? They do have a couple of nice courts set up and fenced.
The Next leg of travel takes us through Kaycee, Bar Nunn (clever) and Casper, a Ghost Town? I think not, quite the opposite. Probably one of the biggest cities we have seen so far in Wyoming. But for us, it was on with our whirlwind tour to Wheatland City Park. We did our homework—as usual—and stumbled upon what seemed like an absolute gem. RV sites nestled in a beautifully maintained park, complete with electric and water hookups, and the kicker? It was free. FREE! Naturally, we were suspicious but also intrigued. Our trusted apps all agreed: this was the hidden treasure every RVer dreams of.
But as we rolled in, something felt off. The “RV sites” were nowhere to be found. Instead, we were greeted by sloped gravel lots and a few sad tenting areas off to the side. With no actual RV spots in sight, we pulled the classic “park across two sloped sites” maneuver to at least stay level. Then, with me still clinging to hope (because maybe we just missed something?), we set out on a walk to figure it out.
Spoiler: the magical electrical RV sites never appeared. What we got instead was the Raven parked sideways on a gravel lot in a park that was, admittedly, gorgeous, but gave off some serious “less-than-secure” vibes. We spent the evening marveling at the park’s amenities—old-fashioned merry-go-round? Check. Monkey bars? Check. Disc golf course and a skate park? Double check. It even had a Disney-level amount of wildlife just casually frolicking about, like they owned the place.
John the Rockstar husband Laverty, ever the optimist, took the chance to kick around the soccer ball while I mentally reviewed our life choices. Admittedly I was the anxious one worrying about how we were the only ones for miles and no one would even hear our screams, but John managed to get some sleep (LOL). Eventually, we packed it in, chalking this one up as a “well, it sounded good on paper” experience.
Moral of the story? Always, always triangulate your sources. One app may say “hidden gem,” but three will say “sideways RV on a gravel lot.”
